People say do what you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.

I love to write.

Trouble is, sometimes the ideas don’t come.

Sometimes you are staring at a blank page for so long you question your own sanity.

Sometimes finding the motivation to sit in front of your laptop to come up with anything is too difficult after a long day at work.

Sometimes the perfect remedy is a quick snack, a cup of coffee and I am ready to go.

However, usually when I am desperate to get my creative mojo back that cup of coffee loses its revitalizing powers and instead leaves me with a racing heart, tired eyes and even less energy than I had before.

A creative Brain is a cruel mistress. One minute it is full to the brim and spilling over with ideas that I find it difficult to get them all down. Other days its like being stranded in a barren landscape watching the tumble weeds drift by as you scramble for the tiniest drop of water.

I have found that having a stream of consciousness ramble can sometimes get things started. Writing for the sake of it, without it needing to make a great deal of sense.

A perfect example of the well running dry, I walked away from my scribbles for 5 minutes and now I have no idea where I was going with it.

Stream of consciousness broken

Point lost

So many sentences scribbled out.

Doubt arrives uninvited to the party and makes itself at home on the couch right next to confusion, as the curtains billow from the open window my idea jumped out of.

That analogy right there is a warning against the dangers of free writing. Do you know what I am talking about because I sure as hell don’t.

I think they should change that phrase from do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life to...

Do what you love it might just drive you crazy.

Something tells me it wont catch on.
